درخواست خوانندگان: آسایشگاههای سالمندان را به سیستم بهداشت و درمان عمومی بسپارید

از شروع پندمیک کرونا تاکنون نزدیک به 9000 نفر در کانادا به علت ابتلا به این بیماری جانشان را از دست داده‎اند. بخش اعظم این افراد، سالمندانی بودند که در آسایشگاهها و مراکز مراقبت از سالمندان سکونت داشته‎اند.

بعضی از آسایشگاههای سالمندان توسط بخش خصوصی و برخی نیز توسط بخشی عمومی مدیریت می شوند.

خانم ثریا محمد در ایمیلی برای سلام تورنتو خواستار آن شده که همه آسایشگاهها زیر نظر سیستم بهداشت و درمان کانادا اداره شوند که عمومی است و بودجه آن از سوی مردم تامین می شود.

متن این ایمیل به قرار زیر است:

Dear editor,

Please help highlight the issues that family members go through (neglect, cruelty etc) on a daily basis. Due to Covid-19 some of these issues now are in the public eye. Canada has had over 7,000 deaths in long term care homes. For a rich country it is a disgrace how we treat our elders.

Long term care homes should be part of the publicly funded health system with clear standards in place. Our older population who have contributed to society over the years deserve the best care not the disgusting care they are receiving now where the military has to be called in to help.

Please make people aware to make this an important one for the next provincial election and move away from privately funded companies with no accountability and only concerned with making money for their shareholders.
