Town recognized by professional organization (EDCO) for Community Economic Development Profile

RICHMOND HILL – Richmond Hill was recently honoured by the Economic Developers Council of Ontario (EDCO) for its Community Economic Development Profile.

The Award of Merit was presented during the 56th Annual EDCO conference held in London, Ontario on February 7, 2013. EDCO is comprised of more than 600 members in the economic development profession across Ontario and works to enhance professional competence, advance economic development as a profession, and support municipal-ities in fostering economic prosperity.

“This award recognizes the work we’re doing to attract and retain business for a sustainable economy in Richmond Hill,” said Mayor Dave Barrow. “We support local businesses, large and small. The Community Economic Development Profile illustrates why Richmond Hill is attractive to new and existing businesses.”

EDCO honoured Richmond Hill’s Community Economic Development Profile in the “product development” category, based on the sense of community pride the profile creates. The judges described the great impact of the profile, and also credited effective use of layout, colour, fonts, photos and graphics to tell the story.

The Community Economic Develop-ment Profile is a comprehensive snapshot of population demo-graphics, social and recreational services, schools and research facilities, and current business profiles in Richmond Hill. Available in print and online, it was designed to highlight to business owners and influencers that Richmond Hill is The Smart Place for Business. Development of the Profile was a collaboration between Richmond Hill Economic Development staff, Mayor and Town Council, the local business community, and external marketing consultant, The Letter M Marketing.

The Community Economic Development Profile was created as part of the Town’s marketing strategy which was implemented in March 2012. In addition to the EDCO award, in October 2012 Richmond Hill was presented with a Marketing Canada Award by the Economic Developers Association of Canada (EDAC) and an Excellence in Economic Development Gold Award by International Economic Development Council (IEDC).

Staff presented this award to Council on March 25, 2013.
