6th Annual Markham-Unionville Community BBQ & Food Drive a Resounding Success

MARKHAM – On Sunday afternoon, July 14th, hundreds of local residents gathered at Armadale Park to participate in the 6th Annual Markham-Unionville Community BBQ & Food Drive, hosted by Markham-Unionville MPP Michael Chan and MP John McCallum, and celebrate the summer season.

This year marked the largest turnout ever for this much anticipated annual event which draws residents from across Markham-Unionville to support the food drive, chat with their government representatives and enjoy free delicious grilled food with their neighbours, family and friends.

Special guests in attendance included Scarborough-Rouge River MPP Bas Balkissoon, members of Markham Council (Deputy Mayor Jack Heath, Regional Councillor Gordon Landon, Councillors Don Hamilton, Alan Ho and Logan Kanapathi), Vaughan Councillor Sandra Racco, York Region District School Board Trustee Juanita Nathan, Markham Fire Chief Bill Snowball, Markham firefighters and members of York Regional Police.

In addition to the Community BBQ, MPP Michael Chan hosts other events in the riding each year, including an Annual Community Holiday Reception & Food Drive each December with MP John McCallum where community members generously contribute thousands of dollars and hundreds of pounds of donated food for the local food bank.

MPP Michael Chan extends his sincere thanks to the community for their support of the food drive and his best wishes to all for a Safe and Happy Summer.
