June 1st, 2012 in Toronto was not only the day a flood drowned out our downtown subway system but it was also the night Max Amini, Iranian descent comedian extraordinaire flooded the eyes of crowds with tears of laughter at the Bluma Appel Theatre.

Max started his act like any “good Persian,” with a traditional Iranian song and dance moves (gher), and he proved his hips don’t lie nor does his wittiness. This was Max’s first official show in our City of Toronto and it was highly supported by both the Iranian and the Canadian crowd. Max is known for his ability to connect with his audience spontaneously and make them feel engaged. This was evident when he hand picked 4 random people from the audience and built a comedic character for each of them making them not only part of the show while making others laugh along but gave them characters that many are still tweeting and facebooking about. Max demonstrated his passion for the art of standup comedy as he put his whole heart, body and soul on the stage for the people of Toronto. It was towards the end, after many chants and pleads, when Max finally imitated his mom in the world famous “Tomato Juice” joke followed by his gone viral “I’m not your typical Persian girl” bit.

Max Amini is a Los Angeles based comedian and a frequent act at the world renowned Sunset Blvd. comedy club ‘Laugh Factory.’ He has filled seats at all his shows in every city he has visited from San Diego, to Dubai, to London and even Canada’s very own Vancouver. Yet, Max did something very different for his sold out Toronto show. He worked with the organizing committee of Iranian-Canadian Youth to allocate tickets to the non-profit organization at a discounted cost.

Amini wrapped up the show after one hour and fifty minutes of non-stop performance with the spectators still yelling for encore and craving to hear more jokes, leaving them still wanting more! He is set to return to Toronto some time later this year.
